On Aug 21 2020, the Network of Quality, Teaching and Learning (QTL_net) offered a two-hour online workshop on Teaching Dossier for AKU faculty members. The seminar was led by Dr Jane Rarieya (Associate Professor & Associate Director at Aga Khan University) with the QTL_net team.
The seminar was attended by 115 participants from the following entities: Institute for Educational Development - Pakistan and East Africa, Medical College - Pakistan and East Africa, and School of Nursing and Midwifery - Pakistan and East Africa, Aga Khan Health Services Tanzania (AKHST) and Karakorum International University (KIU)
The workshop aimed at enabling faculty members to draft their teaching philosophy, identify materials for their teaching dossiers which would provide evidence of their teaching effectiveness. The concepts around what teaching dossier is and its purpose, what is a teaching philosophy as well as what material evidence form part of the dossier, were the highlights of the session. Also, the session provided participants with an opportunity to discuss and reflect on their teaching metaphor and teaching philosophy and in the process unpack their practice of teaching and learning.
The participants shared their feedback on the workshop through a Zoom Poll, which showed that all (100%) the participants found the workshop very helpful. In addition, some of the phrases or words they used to share their workshop experience included the following: 'wonderful session'; 'awesome'; 'excellent'; 'enriching' and 'informative.' Additionally, participants appreciated the sample of teaching philosophy statements that were shared with them as well as the link to samples of teaching dossiers for further reference.
Overall, the workshop was a huge success as it was attended by more participants compared to the last workshop conducted in February 2020 thereby showing a committed interest by the faculty to ensure their teaching is evidence-based and effective.
