The Network of Blended and Digital learning offered the 2nd Cycle of the Teaching in a Virtual Classroom: Live online Teaching with Zoom. The synchronous session took place on the 22nd and 29th of October, 2019. The workshop was attended by 11 participants who were the faculty and staff of AKU from the following entities: SONAM, Medical College Pakistan, Medical College East Africa, Academic Computing and Family Medicine.
The aim of the two-day synchronous online workshop was to enable faculty members to design and offer an engaging synchronous online teaching and learning sessions. Zoom was the web conferencing tool that was used to both model and help participants design a live online synchronous session. The workshop enabled participants to learn and experiment with various features of Zoom. The session also gave participants an opportunity to design a lesson plan for a synchronous session, and demonstrate a three-minute activity to engage their fellow-participants, and exchange feedback with peers and facilitators to improve online teaching practices. The concepts of online teaching were explored; Various online tools were integrated with Zoom in order to give participants ideas on how they can engage their learners, help them collaborate and make sure nobody is left out.
Overall, the participants were content with the skills gained in the two sessions. The workshop will be offered again in January 2019.
