"The most important issue for me was gaining competences in using Zoom. I am more confident and certainly more capable in planning and implementing a live online session when needed." - Veronica Sarungi, Faculty-Institute for Educational Development, East Africa
A two-day synchronous online workshop was offered by the Network of Blended and Digital learning on August 21 and 28, 2019. The workshop was attended by 15 AKU faculty members from the Department of Family Medicine, Institute for Educational Development Pakistan and East Africa, Post Graduate Medical Education Tanzania, School of Nursing and Midwifery East Africa.
The aim of the workshop was to enable faculty members to design and offer an engaging synchronous online teaching and learning session using Zoom.
The concepts of online learning were discussed. Various features of Zoom were modeled during the session along with giving participants hands-on practice. The session also included giving participants an opportunity to design a session plan, sharing it and receiving feedback from the peers and facilitators.
The participants shared their valuable feedback through an online evaluation form, 50% rated it as Excellent and the other 50% as Good.
Overall the workshop was a success giving both participants and facilitators an opportunity to reflect and improve their future practices.
The workshop will be offered again in October 2019.
