Researchers at Aga Khan University's Institute for Education Development (IED) are collaborating with education sector experts to enhance the Sindh government's ability to conduct research that can enhance educational practices and policy.
The agreement between IED and the Sindh Capacity Development Programme (SCDP) will train 30 public sector officials from the Sindh Education and Literacy Department in research methods relevant to the challenges facing the province's education system.
"Research is the key component in an academic institution's value chain of education," said Mr Abdus Sami Khan, Chief of Party, SCDP. "It has a strong impact on how the quality of education can be improved."
The programme consists of a mix of face-to-face sessions and field based assignments. Besides learning about the tools and strategies needed to study educational issues, they will also design and execute studies. Participants will also gain an in-depth understanding of ethical issues in research and will be required to develop and disseminate reports on their findings.
"Enabling the staff of these institutions to engage in research that is of relevance to improve educational practices and policy formulation is the key purpose of this collaboration," said Dr Takbir Ali, head of outreach at IED.
Staff from the Directorate of Curriculum Assessment and Research, Sindh Textbook Board, Provincial Institute of Teachers Education, Sindh Teacher Education Development Authority and Directorate of Teachers' Training will be participating in the programme.
