Stéphane Pradines, ISMC associate professor, was invited by the French Institute of Archaeology in Cairo (IFAO) to participate in a debate on the future of Islamic archaeology in Egypt.
The seminar was organised by Marie-Odile Rousset (CNRS, Lyon) and Nicolas Michel (Director of the Arab Studies, IFAO).
His presentation included the results of 17 years of research in Fatimid Cairo, exposing the problems that he and his team faced in organising salvage and rescue excavations in a large city.
He also presented the positive inputs of his field school of Islamic archaeology, the biggest field school for the medieval period organised in Egypt and the Middle East.
