Sohair Wastawy

Visiting Research Fellow






Dr Sohair Wastawy is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the Aga Khan University's Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations in London​. She​ is an independent library consultant in Florida, USA. She served as the founding Executive Director of the Qatar National Library, the Dean of Libraries at Florida Institute of Technology, Illinois State University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and the first chief librarian of the Library of Alexandria, Egypt. Dr Wastawy also worked as a lecturer/professor in Saudi Arabia and the US.

She currently serves as member of professional associations boards and steering committees (CLIR, British Library) and is the recipient of many awards and honors including a Fulbright scholarship. She is also an international consultant on library buildings and management.

Dr  Wastawy received her BA, MA, and completed work towards her PhD thesis in Linguistics at Cairo University, Egypt and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the Catholic University of America, Washington DC, USA and a Doctorate degree in Library and Information Management from Simmons College, Massachusetts, USA.
