David Taylor

Dr Taylor is Head of Educational Programmes of ISMC


Dr Taylor holds a PhD in Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. He graduated in History in 1966 from the University of Cambridge and completed his MA in Area Studies from SOAS.

Research interests

Indian nationalism; Indian political thought; right-wing political movements in India; mass media and politics in India; ​Islam and politics in Pakistan.


Dr Taylor was the Director of ISMC from 2013 - 2017 and Vice Provost of the Aga Khan University from 2002-2008. Prior to that, he was a faculty member at SOAS, where he became Dean and then Pro-Director with responsibility for teaching. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Panjab University in Chandigarh (India), Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, and the Zentrum Moderner Orient, Berlin. He is currently an Associate Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London.
