Message from the Dean
Professor Leif Stenberg
Dean, Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations
AKU-ISMC, like other campuses of AKU, has taken the extraordinary decision to close the campus and shift to remote working from home. During this challenging time, our top priority is the health and safety of our staff and students. We have not ceased our research, outreach, publications or teaching activities, though these have necessarily undergone radical transformation in how they happen.
Our role within a global institution that spans 3 continents and 6 countries has meant that we were perhaps better prepared than many organisations to move the majority of our activities online, but that doesn’t mean this hasn’t been hugely demanding of our staff and students. We will continue to organise and deliver public online seminars and talks over the coming months, and I invite you all to sign up to our mailing list to be kept informed about these as they become available.
I would like to thank everyone for supporting AKU-ISMC during this uncertain time. The sustained engagement and commitment of the people who attend our public talks and enrol on our short courses is an incredible feature of our wider AKU-ISMC family. We look forward to continuing to deliver the debates and conversations that have made AKU-ISMC such a rewarding place in which to work and study.
