Dr Mureed Hussain holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. During his doctoral research, he did his fellowship at the Radboud University Medical Centre, Nijmegen, The Netherlands and University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA. Thereafter, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Management and Technology Lahore for five years. Dr Hussain joined AKU-CRM in October, 2023, where he is part of the Wellcome Leap funded project that aims to develop advanced gene editing therapies for B-Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease. His research interests include molecular genetics, CRISPR/Cas9, gene therapy, and regenerative medicine.
