Tayyeb Tahir
Consultant Psychiatrist

Professor Tahir is passionate about bridging the gap between physical and mental illnesses, and has thus been involved in medical education, research, and training throughout his career. His research interests include delirium, medically unexplained symptoms, and depression.  Tahir et al (2010) remains the only published placebo controlled RCT for treatment of delirium in a general hospital setting. This was also the title for his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) from Cardiff University. More recent publications on Liaison Psychiatry in Wales and economic analysis of CBT are evident of his interest in service development and quality improvement.

Professor Tahir is also a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, UK, an examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists and an elected finance officer for the Faculty of Liaison Psychiatry of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is particularly passionate about teaching, sharing knowledge and upskilling practitioners. This ultimately means improving patient care, a motivation for his training in medicine.

He has significant expertise in the development and dissemination of online courses, including courses on mental illness targeted for non-psychiatrists. Currently, he is the Programme Leader for Postgraduate Diploma and MSc online courses in Clinical Psychiatry offered by the University of Wales.
