Munnawar Hamid, OBE
Mr Hamid's experience of commerce and industry was gained as the Chief Executive of a major chemicals company (the ICI Plc UK subsidiary in Pakistan), and Chairman of a number of its subsidiary companies in Pakistan, as well as its global Corporate Planner in London.
In addition to the Private Corporate Sector, his association with a number of Boards, high level Government consultative bodies and Public Sector Organizations has also equipped him with an intimate knowledge of the workings of Government, and the Public Corporate and Financial Sectors of Pakistan.
Past Board appointments include: Chairman, Pakistan PTA Limited (wholly owned subsidiary of ICI Plc UK); Chairman, International General Insurance Company of Pakistan; Chairman, Policy Board Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan; Director, Pakistan Public (Sector) Purchasing Regulatory Authority; President, Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Pakistan; Chairman, Board of Trustees, The Duke of Edinburgh Award in Pakistan; Director, Oil & Gas Development Corporation of Pakistan; Director, United Bank Limited; Director, Union Bank Limited; Director, Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited (subsidiary of Standard Chartered PLC); Member, Economic Advisory Board Government of Pakistan (1999-2002); Director, Port Qasim Authority; Director, Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan; Member, Policy Board Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan; Trustee, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS); and Advisor, Huntsman Corp. Singapore.
Mr Hamid was educated at the Universities of Punjab (Pakistan), Cambridge (UK) and INSEAD (France), and was appointed OBE by Her Majesty the Queen in October 1997. Mr Hamid joined the AKU Board in 2000.
