Dr Ayesha Mian
Dean of Students & Chair of Psychiatry
Dr Ayesha Irshad Mian is an M.B., B.S. graduate from the Aga Khan University. She completed her residency and fellowship in General Adult Psychiatry and Pediatric Psychiatry, respectively, from the University of Texas -Houston. She joined Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Staff Psychiatrist from 2005 to 2007 and as an Assistant Professor from 2007 to 2011. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012, and then returned to Pakistan in 2013 to join Aga Khan University (AKU) as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry. In 2016 she took up the additional position of Interim Dean of Students and in that capacity is developing the first Office of Dean of Students at AKU. She was appointed Dean of Students in May 2018.
She has been recognized as an Outstanding Mentor by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for a number of times and Outstanding Faculty of the Year 2011 by the Graduating Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). She was also awarded the BCM Fulbright and Jaworski Awards for Teaching and Evaluation and Educational Leadership in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Dr Mian is a Co-Chair of the International Relations Committee of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP). She is also a member of the Executive Council of the International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP).
Dr Mian was recently awarded Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK for her consistent leadership in medical education. She also received a scholarship for a two year FAIMER fellowship, 2017-18 in the area of International Leadership in Medical Education Scholarship and Research. Dr Mian was also awarded the distinguished fellow by AACAP for her continuous services in Pediatric Mental Health.
