The Chief Development Officer is responsible for advancing the mission and priorities of the University by developing mutually beneficial relationships with its diverse supporters, and by generating philanthropic and other financial support. The CDO partners with university executive, academic and hospital leadership, and AKU alumni to demonstrate the positive impact of AKU on the lives of its graduates, patients, their families and communities, and the wider world, and to share its ambitions for the future.
Richard Brow joined AKU in August 2017 with overall strategic responsibility for international fundraising and alumni affairs. He has experience working with diverse philanthropic cultures including in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and North America. Previously he was Vice President for University Advancement at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon (and New York), where he was responsible for fundraising, alumni relations and communications. In the United Kingdom, he has consulted for diverse clients in the non-profit sector, higher education and in the arts, and has led university advancement and fundraising operations at institutions including University of the Arts London, the London School of Economics and the School of Oriental and African Studies. He also worked in the Middle East Program of the Carter Center in Atlanta. Originally from Canada, he has a Masters in Middle East Studies from SOAS and a BA in Political Science from Concordia University in Montreal.
