Government Delegation Visits AKU-IED
During his visit to AKU Institute for Educational Development
(AKU-IED) in April 2005, Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran
Masood, observed the teaching and learning process at the Institute,
and was impressed with the quality of pedagogy used for teachers'
development in the classroom.
Accompanying him were Punjab Education Secretary Javaid Aslam,
Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister Sadia Choudhary, and Dr Rukhsana
Zia, Director Programmes, Directorate of Staff Development, Lahore.

The delegation also attended a presentation on AKU-IED's key
current and future academic, research and outreach programmes,
and appreciated the Institute's role in building capacity of the
country's public sector in the areas of teacher education and
educational leadership. In particular, they welcomed the Institute's
commitment to creating a research culture in Pakistan and making
research an integral part of in-service education programmes.
During their meeting with Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, President of AKU,
Dr Muhammad Memon, Director, AKU-IED, and faculty members, the
Punjab Education Minister and Education Secretary requested the
Institute's technical assistance in improving school education
in Punjab through professional development of teachers, school
heads, district education officers and other field officers. The
Minister also expressed satisfaction with the work in progress
at the University's Examination Board, adding that initial misgivings
regarding the Board had been dispelled through dialogue with AKU
and the University's efforts to present the factual position before
policy makers and the public at large.
