University’s First International Academic Initiative
Advanced Nursing Studies Programme Started in East Africa

The Advanced Nursing Studies (ANS) programme officially commenced in Uganda in January 2001, following receipt of full accreditation of AKU in that country. With the start of classes, the University has entered the first phase of its international presence outside Pakistan.

In this first year, two programmes are being offered, the Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Conversion, and the Post RN BScN programmes. The ANS programme offered by AKU School of Nursing (AKUSON), is designed to provide continuing and higher education to working nurses in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The programme allows nurses to study part-time, while they continue to work and earn a full-time salary. Implementation of the ANS programme is the result of a partnership agreement between AKU and the governments (Ministries of Education and Health) of the three countries and participating health care institutions in the government, private and NGO sectors.
