Pakistani Dean of Medical College
Professor
Dr. Mohammad Khurshid became the first
Pakistani Dean of the Medical College
in August 2003.
On
his appointment to this position, Dr. Khurshid
said: "I am honored and grateful
for the trust reposed in me for this appointment by the staff, University
administration and the Board of Trustees. AKU will continue to be
a leading university in Pakistan
and this region and I hope to contribute towards this goal, specifically
the Medical College which would continue to be recognised for
its service, education and research activities and the accomplishments
of its faculty." Dr. Khurshid joined
AKU as an Associate Professor, Pathology and Medicine, becoming
Chairman, Department of Pathology, in 1985. Professor Khurshid
was promoted to the position of Medical Director and Associate Dean,
Clinical Affairs, in 2000. He has worked extensively in the field
of haematology, particularly leukaemia.
Dr.
Khurshid has also played a leadership
role in curriculum development both at undergraduate and postgraduate
levels. He combines strong academic credentials, a fine reputation
as an educator and clinician with extensive administrative experience.
Dr. Khurshid is also a member of the European
Haematology Association and the International Society of Haematology
(Asian-Pacific Division). In 2003, the Government of Pakistan conferred
on him the prestigious Civil Award of Pride of Performance.
