Dr. Roderick D. FraserDr Roderick D. Fraser

Dr Fraser served as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Alberta from 1995 to 2005. He brought to the University of Alberta an aggressive vision for the future of the University and his tenure has been marked by notable achievements in teaching, research and community service. He is committed to internationalisation of the University and has entered into significant institutional agreements with partners throughout the world including China, Japan, Mexico and Europe. Dr Fraser's leadership also embraces service to the community which he has demonstrated through initiatives that serve life-long learning needs of alumni and the community at large. Before joining the University of Alberta as President, Dr Fraser was Principal (Resources) at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario from 1988 to 1994. He was also Professor of Economics at Queen's, and served as Dean of their Faculty of Arts and Science from 1983 to 1988. Dr Fraser was awarded a BA in History and Economics in 1961 and two years later a Master's in Economics, both from the University of Alberta. In 1965, he received his PhD from the London School of Economics. He was appointed on Aga Khan University Board of Trustees in April 2005.
