General Nursing(RN) Diploma Programme

Introduction

This is a three year programme whose curriculum conforms to the requirements of the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC). The Registered Nurse (RN) graduates are prepared to deliver safe competent nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

The examination leading to RN is conducted in Karachi by the Sindh Nurses Examination Board (SNEB). The year 1997 marked a special milestone for the School of Nursing as the 1,000th nurse graduated from the Diploma programme.

Objectives of the programme are:

  • Demonstrate safe practice according to standards of nursing practice;
  • Demonstrate accountability for his/her own nursing practice;
  • Participate in activities that contribute to lifelong personal and professional growth;
  • Recognise the need of research in nursing practice. Incorporate the nursing process to deliver safe nursing care to individuals, families and communities;
  • Utilise knowledge derived from the Humanities, Natural and Behavioural Sciences, when providing nursing care to clients;
  • Utilise English language skills to contribute to students professional development/performance;
  • Begin to demonstrate leadership behaviours necessary to coordinate the health care team in providing quality-nursing care.
