MScN Programme
The graduate studies in nursing programme will prepare graduates who, in their practice of nursing, are able to meet the following objectives. These objectives address the six domains of practice for advanced practice nurses.
I. Management of Client Health/ Illness Status
- Demonstrate advance role preparation in caring for populations by applying theory and research to complex health problems;
- Demonstrate competency for insuring the continuity of care for individuals, families and communities;
- Demonstrate cultural competence in variety of practice settings;
- Demonstrate the ability to promote health and prevent illness of individuals, families and communities.
II. Monitoring and Ensuring the Quality of Health Care Practices
- Critically evaluate knowledge received from theories, concepts and principles from nursing, humanities and sciences in order to establish standards for advanced nursing practice;
- Formulate and evaluate standards for individuals, families and communities with limited resources (financial, human and material).
III. Managing and Negotiating Health Care Delivery Systems
- Influence policies while managing the care of individuals, families and communities within the existing health care system.
IV. Professional Role
- Contribute to nursing knowledge throughout the region by conducting and utilising research. Engage in professional activities of benefits to the profession and community.
V. Teaching/Coaching Function
- Demonstrate effectiveness as a teacher, using individual and group models to promote learning.
VI. Collaborating/Consulting Role
- Collaborate with individuals and groups to analyse their health needs and options for addressing theses needs;
- Initiate the development of leadership and collaboration skills relative to social, political, and ethical issues to enhance health care throughout the region.
