Introduction

The BScN Programme began in 1997 with 31 students from all over Pakistan.  This is a four year programme leading to eligibility for licensure as an Registered Nurse (RN) and simultaneous attainment of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. It is the only programme of its kind in Pakistan.  It consolidates the foundations of knowledge, skill and attitude needed to practice nursing and is designed to prepare clinically competent professional nurses. Upon graduation, students will be able to demonstrate responsibility and accountability to the nursing profession by:

  • Adhering to established patterns of professional practices, which support legal, religious, and ethical tenants of Pakistan;
  • Utilising the nursing process to provide safe, competent, and holistic nursing care to patients/clients in a variety of settings;
  • Utilising effective critical thinking and problem solving in caring for the individual, family and community;
  • Utilising scholarly skills and the use of scientific methods in critiquing and applying existing nursing theories and research findings in selected practice settings;
  • Utilising effective oral and written communications in interpersonal and professional interactions with peers, clients, families, and other professionals;
  • Demonstrating a high degree of competence in the use of available resources to support the identified needs of communities, families, and individuals;
  • Demonstrating the ability to coordinate activities related to the provision of health care for individuals, families and groups of patients/clients in various settings and provide leadership as appropriate;
  • Developing attitudes and socio-political skills to influence individuals, families, and communities to mobilise and allocate identified resources to meet identified health needs;
  • Demonstrating awareness of the existing health care system and its policies as they affect patient/client care;
  • Developing leadership skills to promote development of the profession.
