The earthquake which struck the Northern parts of Pakistan on Saturday 8th October 2005 measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale has caused unprecedented devastation and is a great national tragedy. UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan has called this, "a huge, huge disaster ... perhaps the biggest ever that we have seen". In this time of pain and suffering, Aga Khan University, like many other organisations, is endeavouring to assist in every possible manner. The University’s involvement has included participation in immediate and ongoing relief efforts along with plans for rehabilitation of people from affected areas.

The University's response to this devastating earthquake includes numerous collective and individual initiatives including donation of money, equipment and relief goods, teams of experts providing much needed clinical and public health services in affected areas.

This website is an initiative to keep the staff and faculty of the University informed about ongoing activities. It is hoped that this medium will serve to meet the information needs of the University in addition to providing a platform for AKU faculty and staff to exchange ideas.

As the days pass we will develop this website further, and your comments and suggestions in this regard will be invaluable. For ideas and avenues to further develop this website, please write to aku.relief@aku.edu
