Celebration International Women's Day

Talk and panel discussion On “Women Protection Act”

Working Group for Women (WGW) celebrated International Women's Day by organising a Talk and a Panel Discussion on "Women Protection Act" on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. The event was immensely significant for WGW as its newly developed website was also launched on this occasion.

The keynote speaker on this occasion was the renowned Justice Majida Razvi (Retired Judge Supreme Court). The panel comprised of Javed Jabbar Chairman and Chief Executive "J.J Media (Pvt Ltd)", Ghazi Salahuddin Editorial Director "The News" and Afsheen Ahmed President "PAVHNA". The occasion was graced by Dr. David Taylor and Dr. Yasmin Amarsi, besides other directors, managers, faculty, students, media representatives and friends from all walks of life.

Dr. Anita Allana, Coordinator WGW anchored the programme and Dr. Nargis Asad, Interim Chair WGW presented the welcome address. There was much excitement as Dr. David Taylor and Dr. Yasmin Amarsi, escorted by Mir Asghar Ali Khan, Co-Chair Programme and Publicity Committee WGW launched the WGW website. The presentation by Justice Majida was followed by comments from the panellists. Moderator Dr. Dilshad Ashraf Co-Chair WGW opened the floor for discussion. Question answer session was an interactive one. Yasmin Sherali recited a poem on the plight of women.

Dr. David Taylor spoke eloquent words of appreciation for WGW and gave away tokens of appreciation to the speaker and panellists. The AKU Auditorium was filled by around 350 attendees who actively participated in this activity. The session was well covered on GEO TV and in leading newspapers Daily News, The Nation, Jang and others.
