Society of Chemical Pathologists holds 2nd Biennial Conference in collaboration with AKU
Importance of linkages in health care highlighted

Lt. General (Retd) S. Azhar Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Baqai University, and chief guest at the inaugural session of the Pakistan Society of Chemical Pathologists' (PSCP) two-day 2nd Biennial Conference highlighted the importance of linkages in health care, and strongly emphasised the sheer significance of the human factor not withstanding technological innovations. Organised by PSCP in collaboration with Aga Khan University (AKU), the conference included two workshops, at Liaquat National Hospital and PNS Shifa. The inaugural session, held at AKU was well-attended by professionals from all over Pakistan, and the highlight was a presentation on the future of chemical pathology and symposia on infertility. This was followed by the scientific session.
Speakers, who were invited from Islamabad, Lahore and Singapore, presented in their papers findings from latest research in the sub-speciality. Topics covered included recent advancements in Chemical Pathology, the role of "Polymerase Chain Reaction" (PCR) in chemical pathology, infertility, laboratory re-engineering and process improvement, among others.
Assistant Professor and Section Head of Chemical Pathology at AKUH, Dr. Imran Siddiqui, chairing the Organising Committee, welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the conference. Brigadier Farooq A. Khan, Deputy Commandant Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and President PSCP recognised the efforts of PSCP and its contribution to promote education through such conferences, especially thanking the invited international and national speakers. Over 200 doctors and technical personnel attended the conference from Pakistan and abroad, and will help initiate collaborative research projects and understanding at institutional, national and international levels.
A unique feature of this biennial conference is that it enables concerned medical practitioners and technicians to familiarise themselves with state-of-the-art technologies and innovations, and the latest in the existing knowledge base. The conference is designed to provide an opportunity to chemical pathologists, technicians and other members of Pakistan's medical community to expand and build upon their knowledge and understanding of this dynamic field, presently undergoing very rapid changes with new technology. Available facilities in Pakistan are fast-increasing and the organisers saw the necessity of expanding the pool of appropriately-trained chemical pathologists. The PSCP considers it important that all health care providers keep abreast of latest trends and technologies in this discipline.
As a part of its social responsibility and commitment to the advancement of health research and continuing education, AKU supports seminars, symposiums and events to raise awareness about health and education related issues which are of national importance.
