6 Patients under Treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital for Viral Haemorrhagic Fever

At Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), 6 patients are currently hospitalised with suspect viral haemorrhagic fever. The decrease in the number of such cases continues. So far, a total of 849 patients with ages ranging between 6 to 82 years were admitted at AKUH from June 14 to January 12, 2007 with viral haemorrhagic fever. Out of these, 19 patients expired due to severity of disease, while 824 recovered and were discharged. The patients suffered from symptoms ranging from bleeding, diarrhoea, vomiting to abdominal pain.

327 patients were diagnosed to have Dengue haemorrhagic fever, 3 patients suffered from Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), while in the remaining, the special serological tests were either negative or the results are pending. A total of 809 patients were received from Karachi and the remaining patients came from Larkana, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Thatta, Dadu, Saeedabad, Nawabshah, Rahim Yar Khan, Gharo, Hali Nagar, Mirpurkhas, Sujawal, Gilgit, Balochistan and Saudi Arabia.
