AKU-EB announces supplementary SSC results
Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) announced the supplementary SSC examinations results on August 7, 2007. The SSC examinations results were announced on July 5, 2007. Students, who took the supplementary examinations, now have their final verified college entry marks right at the beginning of the college enrolment season, and they will not lose any time in starting their Higher Secondary level studies.
After the results of AKU-EB's SSC examinations, the Board accepted appeals and rechecks till July 13, and registered candidates till July 16 for the supplementary examinations which started as scheduled on July 26, 2007. The supplementary results were posted at AKU website at midnight on August 6, 2007 just four days after the last supplementary examination was held on August 2, 2007. This was made possible by the state-of-the-art computerisation at the Board where there is a networked station for every officer.
This rapid turnaround was design ed to benefit absentees and those who had a bad day due to unavoidable circumstances during the main examination session. Until now, such candidates have faced considerable uncertainty about college places or even the loss of a year's educational progress. 114 candidates have turned SSC ‘fails' into passes and 31 have improved their marks in the one or two subjects which the IBCC (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen) regulations permit them to re-take.
A candidate from Karachi said “I could not get to the examination centre on May 14 because of unrest in Lyari but now I have completed my SSC certificate”. Another student from Abbotabad commented, “I was worried about family problems and could not concentrate on my English exam, which made life worse. I am now completely relieved that I can apply for college along with my other class fellows”.
Examinations were conducted in both English and Urdu mediums and listening skills were assessed in both languages while practicals were conducted in five different subjects. Electronic marking and tabulation of results by especially trained examiners made high quality assurance possible. The integrity and transparency of its examinations stand as major priorities of AKU-EB: it has provided results that colleges can depend on for their admissions and schools can rely on for accurate assessments of their students' understanding and grasp of the subject.
AKU-EB provided essential support to schools by training teachers and holding workshops in applying methodologies designed to enhance students' subject performance. Teachers and AKU-EB are able to plan for and see gradual improvement from year to year. These analyses of candidate performance will also provide an objective basis for establishing explicit and transparent standards of achievements for SSC and HSSC grades.
The supplementary examinations results are available at Aga Khan University 's website www.aku.edu.
