Services - Nuclear Medicine Inaugurated
|
The range of specialised clinical services at Aga Khan University Hospital
(AKUH) continues to expand, the latest addition being the Nuclear Medicine
programme.

| The
new facility of Nuclear Medicine in the Department of Radiology at
Aga Khan University Hospital was made possible with the generous
support of donors. |
Equipped with state-of-the-art Dual Head Variable Angle Gamma Camera, the
only one of its kind in Pakistan, the Nuclear Medicine Suite at the Department
of Radiology will offer services such as bone, renal, hepatobiliary, lung,
cardiac and gallium scintigraphy. This is an addition to the existing facilities
like X-ray, mammography ultrasound, CT, MRI and interventional radiology
being offered by AKUH.
Addressing the donors who had contributed to the establishment of this facility,
Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, President, AKU, said, "Our Institution is blessed
with donors and volunteers who have supported it so generously. By supporting
AKUH's Patient Welfare Programme, you have enabled us to provide this service
at a reasonable price to the people who may not be able to afford its full
charges."
Speaking on behalf of the donors, Mr. Munir Kamal, CEO and President of
the Union Bank, said, "It is indeed a joy to witness the opening of a new
facility and to be associated with this University. We should all be proud
that such a facility exists in Karachi."
Dr. M. Younus Sheikh, Chair of Department of Radiology at AKUH, informed
that with the availability of Nuclear Medicine, patients will now have all
imaging modalities like interventional radiology and CT scan, under one
roof. Nuclear Medicine will not only enhance diagnostic services to patients,
but also boost education. The medical students of the University will now
have on-campus facility for developing hands-on expertise in nuclear medicine
and postgraduate education.
