Graduate Studies

Aga Khan University (AKU) offers graduate programmes leading to MSc Epidemiology and Biostatistics; MSc Health Policy and Management; MSc Nursing and PhD Health Sciences degrees. The programmes are designed for health professionals and basic scientists who have a research interest in the management of health care delivery systems pertinent to Pakistan and developing countries.

The programmes consist of course work and research leading to written dissertation or thesis. In addition to lectures and tutorials, students are involved in protocol writing, data collection and the development of a research study, in which faculty members provide all possible support and guidance as advisors. These programmes have continuous evaluation systems, which include student presentations, formal assessment of each course, a comprehensive examination and defence of the dissertation.

Tuition is charged for the programmes. The University offers financial assistance and accepts applications from students who are selected on merit and have demonstrated financial need after having thoroughly explored all other possible sources of funding. The University also offers teaching/research assistanceships to students in the graduate programmes. Furthermore, two fellowships for the full course of the PhD programmes are available for candidates with an outstanding record of academic achievement and letters of recommendation from teachers/supervisors.
