General Surgery
The Section of General
Surgery provides consultative, diagnostic and therapeutic
services for a wide range of surgical disorders including
those of the intestinal tract, hernia's, breast,
gall stone, biliary tree, liver, pancreas, spleen,
rectum, endocrine (including thyroid), vascular system
and trauma. Surgeons in the Section also offer complete
management programmers in diabetic foot care and
breast disease (including prosthesis and reconstruction).
The state-of-the-art operating room suites are equipped
for “minimally invasive
surgery” laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repairs
allowing patient to return to their daily activities
with a shortened recovery time. The Endoscopy suite
has a video capability for diagnostic and therapeutic
endoscopy of upper and lower gastrointestinal tract.
The day care surgery theatres offer surgery under local
or general anaesthesia on an outpatient basis through
several procedures. Day care outpatient surgery avoids
patient's hospitalisation reducing their cost and offering
them the opportunity to recover in the comfort of their
own home.
Plastic Surgery
The Plastic Surgery service at Aga Khan University
Hospital (AKUH) is provided by a full-time consultant
plastic surgeon. The service offers expertise in the
areas of cleft lip and palate, cosmetic surgery including
liposuction, head and neck reconstruction in collaboration
with ENT, breast reconstruction in collaboration with
general surgery, and full spectrum of reconstructive
surgery including microvascular surgery and tissue
expansion.
Vascular Surgery
The Vascular surgery offers diagnosis and management of disease of the extra-cardiac
aorta and peripheral vascular system, including arterial occlusion and aneurysms
and venous disease.
