Directors for BScN and Midwifery Programmes

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private university, is committed to providing academic programmes, research and service of high quality for the development of human resources, that respond to the problems and needs relevant to Pakistan in particular and developing countries in general.

Established in 1980, Aga Khan University School of Nursing was the first academic component of AKU and its Faculty of Health Sciences. The School offers several programmes in nursing, including a three-year Diploma Programme, Pakistan's first four year BScN and a two-year Post RN BScN, as well as the first Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) which started in October 2001. Four-year BScN and MScN are the only programmes of its kind in Pakistan. The community-oriented values and high quality of education at the School have been pivotal in changing public perceptions towards the nursing profession and its role in health care, as well as enhancing its status on a national and regional level.

The University's School of Nursing invites applications for the position of Director BScN Programme and Director Midwifery Programme.

Responsibilities

The appointees will report to the Dean, AKU-SON and will be responsible for the smooth functioning of the BScN/Midwifery programme, as applicable. This includes planning for course content and faculty requirements, coordinating teaching loads and assignments, monitoring and evaluating all aspects of programme development and implementation, providing leadership and guidance to faculty and making recommendations to the Dean for hiring and promotion of faculty. S/he would also be involved in preparing the annual goals and budget, actively participate in nursing related committees within and outside AKU, conduct and guide faculty in research and be available to students for guidance.

Requirements

  • Candidates for Director, BScN Programme should possess at least MScN qualifications, but a PhD in Nursing will be preferred. They should have at least 5 to 7 years of teaching experience, in addition to 3 to 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Candidates for Director, Midwifery Programme should possess RN/ RM and MScN qualifications, preferably with a PhD in Nursing. They should have at least 5 to 7 years of teaching experience and 3 to 5 years of clinical experience in maternal and child care settings.

For both the positions, candidates should demonstrate excellent knowledge and skills in nursing, teaching methodology, curriculum development and implementation, as well as possess strong communication, interpersonal, administrative and supervisory skills.
