Faculty Positions, Advanced Nursing Studies Programme

Established in 1983, Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKU-SON) was the first academic component of the University. Since its inception, AKU-SON has played a pivotal role in changing public perceptions towards the nursing profession and has established in Pakistan, an internationally acceptable model for nursing education and practice. At present, AKU-SON conducts four academic programmes: General Nursing (RN) Diploma (three years), BScN (four years), Post-RN BScN (two years) and MScN (two years). Its nursing programmes are recognised worldwide and AKU-SON graduates are working in leadership positions nationally, regionally as well as internationally in UK, USA, Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, etc.

Advanced Nursing Studies (ANS) Programme, East Africa
AKU-SON’s ANS programme was developed in consultation with the nursing councils and the Ministries of Health and Education of the governments of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda), to improve the managerial and clinical practices of nurses currently working throughout the region. The programme provides career advancement opportunities for nurses generally and for women in particular. It is a collaborative endeavour, underpinned by a range of formal and informal partnerships with government and private hospitals, nursing leaders and local faculty in each country, as well as linkages with prestigious international organisations such as the Royal College of Nursing of the United Kingdom.

Aga Khan University invites applications for Faculty Positions in the Advanced Nursing Studies Programme (based in Nairobi, Kenya).

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Academic Head, the incumbent(s) will primarily be involved in teaching in the BScN programme but may be required to teach in other programmes as well. As graduate faculty, the incumbent(s) will also be expected to conduct research and serve on several academic committees within the University as a whole.

Requirements
Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya, the applicants should possess a Masters degree in nursing or related field; for senior faculty positions candidates with a doctoral degree or equivalent will be preferred. S/he should have at least three years of teaching experience at an institution of higher learning with a wide range of expertise in teaching different subjects. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching and have a solid track record or potential for scholarly productivity, and commitment to research and publication.
