Aga Khan University School of Nursing
Established in 1983, Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKU-SON) is the first academic component of the University. Since its inception, AKU-SON has played a pivotal role in changing public perceptions towards the nursing profession and has established in Pakistan, an internationally acceptable model for nursing education and practice. At present, AKU-SON conducts four academic programmes: General Nursing (RN) Diploma (three years), BScN (four years), Post RN, BScN (two years), and MScN (two years). Its nursing programmes are recognised worldwide and AKU-SON graduates are working in leadership positions nationally, regionally as well as internationally in UK, USA, Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Syria.

Advanced Nursing Studies (ANS) Programme, East Africa
AKU-SON's ANS programme was developed in consultation with the nursing councils and the Ministries of Health and Education of the governments of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda), to improve the managerial and clinical practices of nurses currently working throughout the region. The programme provides career advancement opportunities for nurses generally and for women in particular. It is a collaborative endeavour, underpinned by a range of formal and informal partnerships with government and private hospitals, nursing leaders and local faculty in each country, as well as linkages with prestigious international organisations such as the Royal College of Nursing, United Kingdom.

Aga Khan University Tanzania Institute of Higher Education (AKU-TIHE) invites applications for the of position of Library Assistant based in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Librarian, the Library Assistant will assist in receiving, processing and cataloguing Library materials.

The main responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:  

  • Receive, process and catalogue library material;
  • Enter bibliographic details in computer database;
  • Shelf books and journals daily;
  • Charge and discharge library materials to bona fide users;
  • Surf the internet for information on queries raised by users;
  • Index newspapers for designated information;
  • Scan material as per requests from users.

Requirements
The position requires a highly results focused person who is team oriented. In addition the appointee should:

  • Possess a Diploma in Library and Information Studies from a recognised institution;
  • Have at least a Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum of Division II;
  • Have at least 2 years working experience in a library environment;
  • Be conversant with the use of ICT in libraries;
  • Possess the ability to catalogue and provide user services;
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Have the ability to cope with pressure from library users.
