Advanced Nursing Studies Programme
Established in 1983, Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKU-SON) was the first academic component of the University. Since its inception, AKU-SON has played a pivotal role in changing public perceptions towards the nursing profession and has established in Pakistan, an internationally acceptable model for nursing education and practice. At present, AKU-SON conducts four academic programmes: General Nursing (RN) Diploma (three years), BScN (four years), Post-RN BScN (two years) and MScN (two years). Its nursing programmes are recognised worldwide and AKU-SON graduates are working in leadership positions nationally, regionally as well as internationally in UK, USA, Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, etc.
Advanced Nursing Studies (ANS) Programme, East Africa
AKU-SON’s ANS programme was developed in consultation with the nursing councils and the Ministries of Health and Education of the governments of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda), to improve the managerial and clinical practices of nurses currently working throughout the region. The programme provides career advancement opportunities for nurses generally and for women in particular. It is a collaborative endeavour, underpinned by a range of formal and informal partnerships with government and private hospitals, nursing leaders and local faculty in each country, as well as linkages with prestigious international organisations such as the Royal College of Nursing of the United Kingdom.
Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Secretary, Advanced Nursing Studies Programme (based in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania).
Responsibilities Reporting to the Distance Learning Coordinator, the Secretary will be responsible for providing support to the Distance Learning Programme. His/her principal duties will include:
- Regular communication with the students on various issues;
- Providing logistical support for academic activities;
- Maintaining students files and records;
- Liaising with the Nursing Councils on various matters regarding the students and other matters;
- Dispatching of academic material to students;
- Assisting in organising for workshops, seminars and training sessions;
- General secretarial support;
- Any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
To qualify you should have:
- A diploma or equivalent in Secretarial Skills;
- Five years of work experience in a reputable academic institution;
- Ability to relate well with students;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage an information database will be a definite advantage.
