Manager, Finance

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private international university, is committed to the provision of high international standards of education, research and health services relevant to Pakistan and the region. AKU is a major component of the Aga Khan Development Network, which consists of institutions that collaborate for development in response to social, economic and cultural challenges in specific regions of the developing world.

The Ordinance of the AKU-EB was approved in November 2002. The goals of the Board are:

  • To promote improvement of the quality of education in schools through examinations for the secondary school certificate (SSC) and the higher secondary school certificate (HSSC), training of teachers, and development of supplementary materials;
  • To design and offer high quality public examinations based on the national curriculum for secondary and higher secondary education;
  • To promote the development of expertise in educational assessment and tests in Pakistan.

Applications are invited from candidates who meet the requirements for the position of Manager, Finance.

Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for managing the finance function within a regulatory framework set down by the Finance Division of AKU. Responsibilities include financial planning and control; supervision of bookkeeping and accounting activities, preparation of financial statements and monitoring of budgets. The incumbent will also maintain up to date computerised fixed assets schedule, arrange for audit of accounts and ensure reconciliation of local as well as foreign sources of funds and grants.

Requirements
The candidates we are seeking should:

  • Be ACA/ACMA or have other appropriate postgraduate qualifications in Finance
  • Have 4 to 6 years experience in making and refining financial projections and communicating these so as to assist development planning
  • Have a sound grasp of the regulatory framework of project accounting
  • Have experience of successfully negotiating with for-profit providers; experience of costing end-product in a for-profit environment, will be preferred
  • Be proficient in MS office with Mastery of Excel
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills in English and must be ready to work flexible hours including late-sitting when necessary
