Brown Bag Lecture Series

As part of a commitment to the humanities and social sciences, AKU-ISMC organises a lunchtime lecture series on wide ranging subjects of relevance to Muslim cultures. The lectures are held at the AKU-ISMC premises in London.

On 6 September 2005, Farid Panjwani, Senior Instructor at AKU-ISMC, gave a lecture entitled Social Critique in Urdu Literature. The lecture focused on the origins and development of social criticism in Urdu prose and poetry, particularly with reference to the Progressive Writers’ Movement. It also provided an introduction to the origins and emergence of the Urdu language and literature. The lecture was supplemented by poetry readings and a short film depicting a mushaira.
