MA students visit Edinburgh and Glasgow

In June 2008, AKU-ISMC’s MA students visited Edinburgh and Glasgow as part of the Institute’s programme of co-curricular activities.
On their first day, the students were able to visit Gladstone’s land, an example of an early high-rise construction which housed diverse social classes in the 17 th and 18 th centuries. Following this, the students explored the National Portrait Gallery of Scotland and joined a city sightseeing bus tour.
In the afternoon, students had time to explore the Royal Mile which includes Parliament House, St Giles Cathedral, Holyrood Palace and a Georgian House.
Students spent the following morning at the University of Edinburgh, exploring the campus, the library and its special collections. These included the Watt and Sergeant collections. After lunch the students were given a guided tour of Edinburgh Castle.

On their final day, students travelled to Glasgow to see the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Glasgow Cathedral and the Burrell Collection.
Co-curricular excursions are a vital element of the MA programme, and allow students to explore the rich culture and history of the United Kingdom and Europe, while providing them with the chance to enhance their relationships with fellow students and faculty. Previously students have participated in excursions to Cambridge, Cardiff and York.
