Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies delegation visits AKU-ISMC

On the 29th of February a delegation of academics, headed by the Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies (IOS) Professor Rostislav Ribakov, visited AKU-ISMC. Also part of the delegation was Dr Nadezhda Emelyanova, Academic Coordinator of IOS and Dr Davlat Khudonazarov, Senior Research Fellow.
Through the exploration of collaboration with the Institute of Oriental Studies, AKU-ISMC hopes to exchange expertise on Muslim cultures with a focus on the Russian context, as well as engage with other institutions in the region.
Partnerships with universities in a variety of countries and environments provide AKU-ISMC with greater access to knowledge about Muslim cultures within their local contexts as well as enhanced opportunities for collaboration on research and academic programmes.

During the day, the delegates were given an overview of AKU-ISMC by Director Abdou Filali-Ansary, details about its academic programmes by Senior Instructor Farid Panjwani, and an overview of the Muslim Civilisations Abstracts project by Dr Aptin Khanbaghi. The delegates also had an opportunity to visit the Institute's library and learn more about its unique collection.
Professor Rotislav Rybakov provided a detailed overview about the Institute of Oriental Studies in Moscow and its numerous activities and extensive partnerships with other academic institutions in the region and beyond. Professor Rybakov is a specialist of Indian culture and the history of culture and intercultural interactions. He is well known for his contribution to the study of the synthesis of modernism and the traditional and religious aspects of society. He has been Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) since 1994 and is Rector of the Oriental University.
The visit by the delegation from the Institute of Oriental Studies, Moscow was mutually beneficial and is in keeping with AKU-ISMC's aim of extending its reach with partner institutions globally in order to provide a forum for engagement, debate and discussion about the contemporary challenges in Muslim contexts and the heritage of Muslim cultures.
