| Rahim Bagheri discusses his short films with the audience. |
On the 30th of January, a film screening was held at AKU-ISMC. MA student Rahim Bagheri showed two short films, Going Silent and Journey in Darkness. The screenings were followed by a discussion with Bagheri.
Going Silent is a short documentary-style film which portrays an Iranian girls school in a working-class area of southern Tehran during the celebration of the anniversary of the Islamic revolution. The film, which was directed by Bagheri, seeks to portray the issue of sex-segregation in Iranian schools as well as in broader Iranian society.
Journey in Darkness is a fiction piece which portrays a man who is imprisoned in a small cell, for reasons unknown to the audience. The film eloquently portrays the psychological effects of imprisonment, and the ability of human beings to transcend physical imprisonment through the power of the mind.
Film screenings form part of the vibrant student life of the Institute. Other activities have included trips to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Cambridge, as well as participation in a range of cultural and academic events held at the Institute.
