Details of the Collection
Our library collection aims to meet the teaching needs of the Institute's academic programmes and to build a significant and distinctive scholarly research collection on Muslim cultures and history. Emphasis is placed on the published contributions of contemporary scholars in areas and languages of interest to the Institute.
The teaching collection holds a number of recommended and standard texts, commentaries and other monographs which students will need to use.
The reference collection includes dictionaries, encyclopaedias and other reference tools, in print and electronic form.
The research collection comprises numerous primary and secondary texts and serials of scholarly value, in a range of languages. It generally avoids duplicating the significant holdings of neighbouring libraries such as SOAS and the British Library.
Currently the Aga Khan University Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (AKU-ISMC) library totals over 8000 titles and around 100 periodicals.
