Pakistan’s UK High Commissioner visits AKU-ISMC
March 19, 2007

Her Excellency Dr Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom met with faculty, staff and students at the Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (AKU-ISMC) on March 19, 2007.

This first visit of the High Commissioner to the Institute provided an opportunity for an exchange of ideas and thoughts about the work of the Institute as well as the need for a greater understanding about Muslim cultures and heritages.

The visit included discussions with academic staff, a luncheon with the students and tour of the Institute.  Her Excellency was accompanied by the Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Abdul Basit.  Dr Lodhi is a distinguished journalist and academic, having completed her PhD in Political Science at the London School of Economics, where she taught until 1985.  She has been an editor of two major newspapers in Pakistan and has served two terms as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S. prior to her present post.  Author of two books, Pakistan’s Encounter with Democracy (Lahore: Vanguard Press, 1994) and The External Challenge (Lahore; Jang Publications, 1994), AKU-ISMC looks forward to welcoming Dr Lodhi to the Institute in the near future to deliver a guest lecture.
