On the 15th of April, AKU-ISMC hosted a luncheon for the Consular Corps of London. The event, attended by 33 consular officials from 28 London consulates, sought to provide an opportunity for the group to learn more about the work of the Institute.
The event was co-chaired by the AKU-ISMC Director, Professor Abdou Filali-Ansary, and Mr Andre Goodfriend, President of the Consular Corps in London and First Secretary/Consul of the United States Embassy.
Professor Filali-Ansary began by introducing the work of the Institute, explaining the importance of its role as a provider of quality education and research programmes about Muslim cultures and societies. He noted that the Institute’s programmes use the framework of the humanities and social sciences, allowing for the consideration of Muslim histories as a lived phenomenon.

A short overview of the educational and research programmes of the Institute was then given by Professor Moncef Ben Abdeljelil, Head of Educational Programmes, and Professor Modjtaba Sadria.
The introduction to the Institute and its work was then followed by a lively discussion on the topic, Understanding Muslim Cultures: Challenges of our Time.
The event allowed for interaction between officials from a variety of consulates, representing a diverse range of countries around the world. The luncheon with members of the Consular Corps of London served as an excellent opportunity to share ideas and learn more about the work of each consulate, introduce the work of the Institute to a diverse audience and engage in important debates about contemporary challenges in society.
