About the Research Fellowship Programme
The Institute's Fellowship Programme began in 2005. To date eight fellowships of six months in duration have been completed or are being undertaken. The purpose and functions of the Fellowship Programme are multiple and include:
- to provide opportunities for scholars from the Muslim world to gain exposure to academic resources (ie other scholars, libraries, etc) about their areas of research outside of their home contexts;
- to undertake research that falls within the areas of focus for the Institute’s research activities;
- to participate in, and where appropriate, lecture or give presentations on their areas of research to wider audiences;
- to undertake a specific research project that is directed by the Institute;
- to publish at least one academic article while a Fellow at the Institute.
AKU-ISMC has offered research fellowships to a range of scholars on a variety of topics. Research areas have included:
- Bioethics
- Civil society
- Higher education
- Law in Muslim contexts
- Networks and institutions
- Social change
