Iftekhar Iqbal
 Dr Iftekhar Iqbal is an historian of modern South Asia with particular interest in Bangladesh. He works in the fields of ecological history and the history of ideas, social changes and pedagogy. His research project at AKU-ISMC examines the formation, nature and trends of the public sphere in postcolonial Bangladesh. Following completion of doctoral studies at Cambridge University, Dr Iqbal joined the history department at Dhaka University, from where he is currently on leave. Before joining AKU-ISMC in August 2008, he held a British Academy/ESRC Visiting Fellowship at King’s College London. Dr Iqbal is a Fellow of Cambridge Commonwealth Society, an Executive Member of the Association of South Asian Environmental Historians and a member of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. Dr Iqbal is expecting his first monograph, The Last Frontier. Ecology, Economy and Society in Colonial Bangladesh, to be published in late 2009. It will be followed by a book on post-colonial Bangladesh history and politics, Locations of the Nation, co-authored with Dr Jon E. Wilson.
