Ethical Review Committee Terms of Reference

This document is based on University Research Council-Ethical Review Committee Terms of Reference. University of Waterloo-Human Research Ethics Committee Terms of Reference has been referred to in the development of this document.

The Ethical Review Committee (ERC-IED) was constituted on the advice of the Research and Policy Studies Advisory Committee (RAPSAC). It is concerned with the ethical review of all research being done at AKU-IED, including funded and non-funded studies. This research may be conducted on or off campus.

Membership

• The duration of appointment shall be two years and may be renewed for one term.

• A Chair will be elected for a period of two years from amongst the members.

• Three faculty members, preferably members of both genders, will be elected on the basis of relevant experience and expertise.

• Two members from outside of AKU-IED will be invited according to the criteria given below:

  • Evidence of interest and experience of engagement in research;

  • Experience and understanding of issues pertaining to schools and schooling;

  • Willingness and availability to participate in ERC-IED meetings and related activities
