Policies and Procedures
Policy and Procedure on Requesting a No-Cost Extension
All requests for a no-cost extension of an internal grant must be
submitted by the Principal Investigator
(PI)
to the Head, RAPS. Although
the research studies should be handed in by the given deadline, we
do
recognise
that in some cases the need for a no cost extension
may arise.
- Typically, a request for a no-cost extension should include:
a brief report on the current stage of research, a clear rationale
for the extension, a strategic action plan of how the additional
time would be used, and a discussion on implications of the extension
for the budget.
- Requests for first time extensions should be recommended to the
director by Head, RAPS.
- Subsequent requests for no-cost extensions will be reviewed by
RAPSAC.
- Extensions will be granted for a period of no more than
six months.
- No more than
two
extensions (six months each) will be granted except
for in extenuating circumstances subject to the approval of
RAPSAC.
- Failure to complete the study after the second no cost extension
may adversely affect the future funding opportunities for PI/s,
for example, no grants for a new study may be approved before completing
earlier studies.
