Dr Nelofer Halai was transferred from
Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKU-SON) to Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED)
in July 1996. After joining AKU-IED, Dr Halai took a deep
interest in the teaching of science methods and research methods
to the MEd students. In 2003, she received AKU-IED's Outstanding
Teacher of the Year Award by her peers -- the first time that
AKU-IED had chosen to give such an award.
In 2003, Dr Halai was appointed the Coordinator of the PhD
(Education) programme at AKU-IED. She has taken a leadership
role in developing the PhD programme. She has chaired the
PhD Working Party, an international committee with membership
from AKU-IED, Oxford University (UK), and University of Toronto
(Canada), for two and a half years.
At AKU-SON, Dr Halai played a leading role in developing
and enhancing the teaching and learning of science, creating
many new courses at the Baccalaureate and diploma levels.
She was very proactive in obtaining resources, such as the
state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for nursing students.
She also has extensive experience of teaching science at the
secondary and post- secondary levels, both in the public and
private sectors.
