Dr Muhammad Memon joined
Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED)
in December 1993 as an
Assistant Professor. He was promoted Associate Professor
in 1996 and Professor in 2003. He is the first national
to be appointed Director of AKU-IED in January 2005.
Dr Memon also served as Head of Programmes at AKU-IED.
He has developed a series of professional development programmes
such as Advanced Diploma in School Management (ADISM) for
practising and aspiring headteachers, Mentoring Programme
for primary school teachers in Balochistan, and Certificate
in Educational Management (CEM) for senior education managers
in the public and NGO sector. He has played a significant
role in introducing educational leadership and management
as a field of studies in Pakistan.
He has been teaching courses on
reconceptualisation
of
curriculum and instruction, educational leadership and management
in MEd and Advanced Diploma in School Management (ADISM)
programmes. He has also completed a collaborative study
with the Faculty of School Education, Sheffield Hallam University,
England on understanding headteachers' role in managing
change in schools.
Prior to this, he had served as a teacher educator and
educational planner and manager for a considerable period
of time in the public sector and developed a wide range
of educational projects financially assisted by various
donor agencies for the qualitative and quantitative expansion
of education in Pakistan. He has served as a member of various
committees and task forces on reforming education in the
public sector of Pakistan. He served as an external examiner
of PhD and MEd dissertations. His work is widely published
in national and international journals.
