Dr Bernadette Louise Dean joined Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) in 1996. Currently, she is Associate Professor and Head of Academic and Student Affairs at AKU-IED.
At the Institute, her major areas of responsibility involve academic leadership at the PhD and Master's levels. Her major areas of
specialisation
are social studies education, citizenship education, curriculum development and action research. She also facilitates development of junior faculty and research staff. She is also Team Leader of the CRRP Programme which involves provision of academic, research and administrative leadership of the team.
As Head Academic and Student Affairs she is responsible for developing mechanisms for quality assurance across IED's programmes and is also responsible for the development of policies and procedures for faculty development and student support services.
