Partnerships and Linkages
Partnerships
In 1993, Aga Khan University Institute
for Educational Development (AKU-IED) established partnerships
with two renowned universities --- the Department of Educational
Studies, University of Oxford, and the Ontario Institute of Studies
in Education, University of Toronto. The partnerships have been
successful in terms of meeting the educational needs of AKU-IED.
These partner universities have been able to lend immense credibility
to AKU-IED by providing quality control and expertise in conducting
field-based teacher education
During the initial years of AKU-IED's establishment, faculty members
from the partner universities provided input to the Institute's
academic programmes, which have been highly successful.
In the area of faculty development, the University of Oxford has
provided opportunities to AKU-IED faculty members to teach at Oxford,
as well as co-edit and co-author a book with the Oxford University
faculty.
The partnerships with the two universities have resulted in:
- Lending credibility, providing quality assurance and enhancing
the 'perceived status' of AKU-IED. This has been one of the most
important outcomes of the partnerships.
- Innovative curriculum development.
- Faculty development.
- Availability of partner universities' faculty for teaching.
- Development of relationships with partner universities' faculty.
- Joint research/publication.
- Innovative teaching.
- The commitment of partner universities faculty to the development
of AKU-IED's programmes.
- PhD programme for AKU-IED faculty at the partner universities.
- Development of AKU-IED's PhD programme.
