Primary Education and Child-to-Child Resource Centre

The Primary Education and Child-to-Child Resource Centre is located at Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED). It is purpose-built for the development of primary-level school teachers, as well as for imparting health education to schools.

AKU-IED and Save the Children (UK) are committed to provide quality education and they view the resource centre as a means of improving the pedagogical knowledge of teachers who, in turn, will work for developing the knowledge of children.

The objectives of the resource centre are to:

  • Offer professional development courses for teachers using the child-to-child approach;
  • Provide teachers access and exposure to equipment and teaching aids related to the child-to-child approach and child-centered teaching methods to help them plan lessons and activities;
  • Encourage children and teachers to generate stories, pictures, games, and activities for other teachers to use in teaching health education;
  • Facilitate sessions between schools so that they can share ideas and experiences of health promotion;
  • Offer professional development courses for teachers to enhance their content and pedagogical knowledge;
  • Locate and develop low-cost resources and materials relevant to the needs of primary school teachers and students;
  • Provide a platform for children and teachers to engage in child-centered activities;
