Quality in Teacher Education for Better Quality of Life
Correlation between quality in teacher education and security of future has empirically been investigated in this work while the author was training female teachers belonging to schools run by the City District Government, Karachi. These teachers were trained in teaching methodology and instructional technology. Majority of the teachers hailed and were posted at schools situated in the slums of the metropolis. Slowly the change occurred; the taught taking charge of their own lives and started earning livelihood from their profession. School teachers narrated stories of individual success by pupils. Case study elaborates slow and steady change taking place in upgradation of socio-economic stratification of the downtrodden through state-run schools. Teachers employed in these municipal schools are part of the communities plagued with poverty. The pace of change and transformation is faster than before as teachers are now trained and competent enough to introduce the skill of learning to the students along with the subject itself. Quality in teacher education enables pupils learning to think.
